My name is Matthew Kent Trinkle and I am an oil painting artist from Jacksonville, Florida. From a very young age I've always loved to draw but besides a few art classes with an eccentric sculptor during my elementary school years, I had never pursued much growth in my art. In the summer of 2017, through a series of youtube videos, I was inspired to hone my craft and began Oil Painting. Since then, I’ve worked hard to develop my own technique through the study of works from some of my art heroes like Hudson River School Masters: Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran, and modern day artists like Andrew Tischler.
In the spring of 2019 I graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Conservation Management. In school, my hope was to work for the National Park Service. I still dream to support the mission of the NPS, though now I hope to do so with a paintbrush.
I am an avid backpacker and hiker and spend as much time outdoors as I am able. I was privileged growing up to have the opportunity to spend two weeks of my summers in Durango, Colorado. It was my first summer in 2012 that fostered the love of the outdoors in me and I never looked back. Since then I have completed several hundred miles of the Appalachian Trail as well as many more spanning from Florida to California. In college, I logged hundreds of river and trail miles guiding whitewater and backpacking trips for an outdoor adventure company in central Colorado. All of these incredible experiences inform my work today and through my art, I hope to take people to some of the more remote places in the world to let them see the beauty that nature holds, and to make those remote places more accessible.
I am now living in Knoxville, Tennessee with my wife Hannah and our dog, Percy. I work full-time remotely for an outdoor retailer and hope to continue growing my art business to pursue art full time one day. I am still learning and continually pushing myself to be more adventurous in my art. For any tips/tricks or commission inquiries, please reach out in my contact section!
